CEDAR CREEK LAKE–Memorial Day 2020 differed from those in the recent past. There were no great gatherings and no public ceremonies due to the coronavirus.
In Dallas, they held an online commemoration. In Henderson County, the Memorial Wall at the East Texas Arboretum was open to visitors to come and pay their respects.
In Mabank, the Sarah Maples Chapter of the DAR had to cancel their public event that was planned with bagpipes and tributes to fallen heroes. The group met privately to display wreaths and honor those who “gave their all” with wreaths, flags, arrangements and maintained gardens. A tribute to all veterans is planned by the DAR for Veteran’s Day in November.
Remember we are “the land of the free, because of the brave.”
